Have you pre-ordered the BlackBerry Priv? If you have, you may be wondering why the device hasn’t arrived on your doorstep, since it was initially listed to ship on the 9th of November. Apparently, the high demand for the high-end Android-powered slider has forced the Canadian phone maker to push back the device’s shipping date to the 30th of November.

Will ship starting on the 30th of November

BlackBerry UK now says that the buyers who pre-ordered the Priv will start getting their hands on the device starting on the 30th of November. The Priv was said to be the last device BlackBerry makes if it turns out to be a flop. We’re guessing, since the demand for the device turned out to be high, BlackBerry will continue to manufacture devices.

To recap, the BlackBerry Priv rocks a 5.4-inch screen with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels (Quad HD). This works out to a pixel density of 540 ppi. Just like BlackBerry devices of old, a physical QWERTY keyboard slides out. A virtual keyboard is also available. A Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 64-bit hexa-core processor (two cores clocked at 1.8 GHz, four cores clocked at 1.44 GHz, and an Adreno 418 GPU to handle graphics), coupled with 3 GB of RAM is found under the hood. The Priv features 32 GB of internal storage. It also comes with a microSD card slot for additional storage options. Its camera combo consists of an 18-megapixel Schneider-Kreuznach rear-facing camera with optical image stabilisation that can record 4K videos and a 2-megapixel front-facing for snapping selfies and video chat. Keeping the lights on is a colossal 3,410 mAh battery that offers 22.5 hours of battery life (mixed use).

The BlackBerry Priv comes with a new security feature called DTEK. DTEK is an early warning system that alerts you if your privacy has been compromised. Not only does the system monitor your smartphone, it also alerts you when you are at risk. Lastly, it offers suggestions on how to make your smartphone more secure.

Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) is now being pushed out by Google. This said, when will the Priv get the update? According to BlackBerry execs, the update will be rolled out to the smartphone “sometime in the new year,” but failed to mention the exact date.

The BlackBerry Priv (SIM free) is available from BlackBerry UK for £559.00 (VAT included).
